In Perfect Harmony: Karmichael Anthony's Journey of Science and Music

From Manchester, Jamaica, Karmichael Anthony’s love for biology began in the classroom at Manchester High School, inspired by his biology teacher, Ms Hamilton. He graduates with a BSc in Biotechnology, a minor in Music, and is preparing to begin an MSc in Forensic Biology.

For years, Karmichael wrestled with choosing between two passions: music and science. Instead of abandoning one, he embraced both—discovering that creativity and logic are deeply connected. That decision became the foundation of his academic and artistic journey.

At The UWI, Karmichael emerged as a leader in campus music and culture. He served as Choral Coordinator for P.E.A.C.E., supporting vocal development and musical direction. He later joined the University Singers, where he performs as a tenor, contributes as an arranger, and has composed an original work for the choir. He is also one of two directors of QUBE: The University Performing Arts Collective, helping guide artistic vision, create arrangements, and musically direct performances.

In recognition of his impact, Karmichael received the University of the West Indies’ Premier Award for Culture (2025).

Alongside music, his passion for science remains strong, drawn to investigation, experimentation, and discovery. To him, science explains the natural world, while music gives voice to human experience. Now, he hopes to inspire the next generation by showing that creativity and critical thinking don’t compete—they flourish together.

The arrangements shared in this post was done by Karmichael.
