Precision Cybersecurity Lab Coming to UWI to Outpace Rising Risks

The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona, Department of Computing, Faculty of Science and Technology has partnered with Precision Cybertechnologies and Digital Solutions Limited to launch the Precision Cybersecurity Lab, officially unveiled on July 3, 2025, at the S Hotel in Kingston.

To be located within the Department of Computing at the Faculty of Science and Technology, the lab is backed by a US $75,000 investment aimed at bolstering Jamaica’s digital security infrastructure. Dr. Curtis Busby‑Earle, lead researcher of UWI’s CIFER group (Computer Intrusions, Forensics, and Exploitations), is spearheading the initiative on UWI’s end, emphasizing the importance of hands-on cybersecurity training for students to meet the growing threats in the region. The UWI Mona Principal, Professor Densil Williams, highlighted the strategic value of the partnership and expressed pride in both the lab and the internship programme being developed. “The Precision Cybersecurity Lab is an investment in Jamaica’s future, and, by extension, the wider Caribbean,” explained Dr Ronald Walcott, PCDS managing director.

This initiative marks a significant advancement in real-world cybersecurity training, research, and workforce readiness for Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
