
Kaela Calvert, Class of 2025, graduated from the University of the West Indies, Mona with First-Class Honours, earning a BSc in Software Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. Her journey reflects perseverance and growth, progressing from a 60% GSAT math score to excelling academically at the university level in the same area. A former head girl at The Convent of Mercy Academy, ‘Alpha,’ her early studies in Computer Science and Mathematics shaped her passion for STEM.
Throughout her undergraduate years, Kaela consistently achieved academic distinctions, including the Dean’s Honour Roll, multiple Academic Commendations, induction into the Computing Honours Society, and the Kala & Joseph Thakur Memorial Scholarship in 2024. She also earned the iSAQB CPSA-F certification under the mentorship of Dr. Claudine Allen.
Kaela credits her success to her faith and family support. She currently works as a Software Engineer specialising in artificial intelligence, with a focus on generative AI and AI agents, and plans to pursue graduate studies to further contribute to the evolving AI field.
