From Chemistry Students to Lecturers: Two Young Women Begin a New Chapter at FST

For Dr. Deneikah Jackson-Wray and Dr. Tahjna Robertson, their connection to the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies, Mona, has entered a new chapter. Both alumnae of the Department, these young women were appointed as lecturers effective August 1, 2026, returning to the academic community where they once studied to help guide the next generation of chemistry students.

Dr. Jackson-Wray, an electrochemist, will teach preliminary and advanced-level chemistry courses. Her teaching will span students’ introduction to university chemistry and their exploration of more advanced concepts.

Dr. Robertson, a computational chemist, will teach Level I and preliminary chemistry courses, helping students build the foundation needed for further study in the discipline.

Their appointments bring together two distinct areas of chemistry and offer an encouraging example of the paths available to young women pursuing careers in science. For students beginning their own journeys in the Department, both lecturers represent the possibility of progressing from studying chemistry to teaching it.

The Faculty of Science and Technology warmly congratulates Dr. Jackson-Wray and Dr. Robertson and looks forward to their contributions to teaching, research and student development.
