Physics Grad Candice Charlton Begins Postdoctoral Appointment at the Technical University of Crete

The Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona, proudly announces that Ms. Candice Charlton (Graduate Student, Department of Physics) has commenced a 24-month Postdoctoral Research Fellowship as of October 27, 2025, at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment and Climate Change, School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Crete, Greece.

This appointment is funded by the AXA Research Fund, a globally recognised organisation that supports high-impact research addressing major societal risks. Ms. Charlton’s research will focus on 'near future seasonal wildfire forecasting.'

Her postdoctoral research will be conducted in close collaboration with two influential partners, AXA Climate Company, an international leader in climate risk assessment, adaptation solutions, and environmental resilience and Leverhulme Wildfire Centre, Imperial College London, a world-class research hub dedicated to understanding and addressing the growing global threat of wildfires.

Through these partnerships, Ms. Charlton will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of climate science, environmental engineering, and risk management.

Ms. Charlton’s achievement reflects both her exceptional academic talent and the strong foundation established at The UWI. Her appointment to a leading European research institution underscores the global relevance and competitiveness of UWI-trained scientists.
