The Department regrets to announce the passing of Dr Thomas Stemann. Dr Stemann passed away at hospital on September 25, 2024. Dr Stemann, a Palaeontologist served the department with distinction since 1998 and has left an indelible mark on staff and students alike as he taught at all levels of the programme. Dr Stemann served the department for many years as head of the Geology section and as undergraduate coordinator. He collaborated with researchers globally and has had partnerships that resulted in postdoc researchers, graduate students and others joining him in Jamaica for various time frames for field work and to learn about the coral assemblage in Jamaica and the Caribbean. Dr Stemann will be missed. A memorial ceremony was held by his family to celebrate his life and work on October 28, 2024 at 3 pm in SLT3.
