Members of the Department of Chemistry, Debbie-Ann Gordon-Smith, Paul Reese, and Donna Minott Kates were recently invited to participate in a special Coffee Morning hosted by Environmental Solutions Limited (ESL). The event provided an opportunity for professional engagement, knowledge sharing, and celebration of alumni excellence.
A highlight of the morning was a powerful presentation by the Honourable Dr. Joy Spence, a distinguished alumna of the Department and a global trailblazer. Dr. Spence captivated the ESL team and visiting guests as she shared her remarkable journey to becoming the world’s first female Master Blender in the spirits industry. With warmth and wisdom, Dr. Spence recounted the defining moments of her career, the accolades that took her by surprise, and the valuable life lessons learned along the way. Her presentation was described as nothing short of masterful - a true reflection of her legacy and enduring commitment to excellence.
This event also showcases the Department's ongoing commitment to community service, industry collaboration, and alumni engagement. By participating in events like ESL's Coffee Morning, the Department continues to foster meaningful connections between academia, alumni, and the professional world, strengthening the network that supports both student development and national advancement.
