Dr. Dwight Robinson Elected Fellow of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences

The Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus proudly congratulates Dr. Dwight Robinson on his election as a Fellow of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to science and his dedicated service to the Caribbean Academy of Sciences Jamaica (CASJ).

Dr. Robinson’s official recognition was celebrated on February 13, 2025, following his election as a Fellow in September 2024. This prestigious honour highlights his ongoing commitment to the advancement of science in the Caribbean and his unwavering support of the mission of the CASJ. The Handover Ceremony was attended by Dr. Robinson colleagues including Professor Michael Taylor, Dr. Nagarani Ponakala, Dr. Marvadeen Singh-Wilmot, Professor Emeritus Robert Lancashire and Prof.Ronald Young who are all members of CAS.

Dr. Robinson’s involvement with CASJ began in 2010 when he became a member of the organization. His dedication to the Academy’s objectives led to his election to the Board of Directors in 2011. In 2012, he was appointed the Public Relations Officer (PRO), a role in which he worked tirelessly to raise the visibility of CASJ and foster stronger engagement with key stakeholders.

Between 2014 and 2018, Dr. Robinson played a pivotal role in addressing critical issues facing the agricultural sector. As a leader in organizing a series of fora, he brought together experts, policymakers, and industry professionals to explore practical solutions and facilitate meaningful dialogue on the challenges within this essential field.

In addition to his efforts in organizing impactful events, Dr. Robinson made significant contributions to CASJ's administrative functions, offering vital support to young members and representing the organization at scientific and professional events. His dedication strengthened CASJ’s presence within the scientific community and ensured that it continued to be a vital platform for scientific discourse and development.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Dr. Robinson remarked, “This honor underscores my commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and supporting the Academy’s mission within Jamaica and the wider Caribbean region.”

The CAS is an independent, non-governmental regional science body, which fosters STEM in the Caribbean, through advocacy, advice, training, and the exchange of ideas, and represents the region on other international scientific bodies.

The Faculty commends Dr. Robinson for this well-deserved recognition and look forward to his continued contributions to the scientific community and the furthering of CASJ’s mission.
