The Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE) has appointed Ms. Cherri-Ann Farquharson as its Technical Chief of Staff, effective January 6, 2025. A Jamaican national, Farquharson holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Physics from Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona, and has extensive experience in sustainable energy, capacity building, and project management.
Farquharson joined CCREEE in 2020 and has since made significant contributions to the organisation. As the Knowledge Management and Capacity Development Expert and later the Capacity Development and Gender Expert, she spearheaded the development of the Caribbean Energy Knowledge Hub (CEKH), which now includes over 350 resources and a community of more than 650 members from 50+ countries. She also led technical initiatives such as the Regional Electric Vehicle Strategy, the Integrated Utility Services Model, and the Regional Offshore Wind Strategy and Roadmap.
Dedicated to empowering future generations, Farquharson has upskilled over 1,000 energy professionals through training programs and developed initiatives like the CARICOM Women in Sustainable Energy (WISE) and CARICOM Sustainable Energy Youth Awards, which celebrate exceptional contributions to the sector. She also played a pivotal role in CCREEE’s Internship Programme, mentoring young professionals in renewable energy.
A certified energy manager and solar PV installer, Farquharson has represented CCREEE at key international events, including the Global Climate Action Partnership Workshop in Brazil and the Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship in Hawai’i. She has also been a driving force behind public engagement initiatives, such as CCREEE’s Transition Podcast and the Regional Universities Network Webinar, showcasing her ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
In her new role, Farquharson will deliver strategic leadership, enhance core programs like the CEKH and the Project Preparation Facility, and drive the region’s capacity to implement sustainable energy projects. Reflecting on her appointment, she expressed her passion for advancing the Caribbean’s energy transition by harnessing its abundant natural resources to transform economies and create a sustainable future.
