
The University of the West Indies, Mona, regrets to inform you that our colleague, Mr. Eyton Ferguson passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Mr. Ferguson joined the University of the West Indies, Mona in 1985 as a Data Controller, remaining in that position until 1987 when he moved to the Planning Institute of Jamaica. He returned to the UWI, Mona in 2003 as an Assistant Lecturer, serving in various capacities until December 2017. From January 2018 to July 2022, he held adjunct positions and became an Instructor again in August 2022.
He served as the seminar coordinator and Summer School coordinator for the Department of Computing until his death. He was also part of a software development team that developed Ricoche, an application used by the Faculty of Science and Technology to enhance timetable scheduling and reduce conflicts in course activities.
Mr. Ferguson exemplified dedication in teaching and learning, acting as a mentor to many within the Department of Computing. His unparalleled commitment to students was evident, even in his final days, he remained concerned for their well-being and examinations. His absence will be deeply felt by both colleagues and students alike.
In light of this death, the UWI flags will be flown at half-mast on Friday, December 5, 2025.
The University extends condolences to the family and friends of the late Mr. Ferguson.
