On Jamaica's Independence Day, August 6, 2025, Ainsley Henry, CEO and Conservator of Forests at the Forestry Department, was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer in recognition of over two decades of dedicated service to Jamaica’s environmental sector
Throughout his career, Ainsley has held key leadership roles, including Programme Manager for the Caribbean Regional Track of the Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience through UWI’s Mona Office for Research and Innovation, as well as positions at the Natural Resources Conservation Authority and the National Environment and Planning Agency. He expressed humility and gratitude upon receiving the national honour, noting the recognition was both unexpected and deeply meaningful.
Ainsley Henry’s award celebrates not only his professional achievements but also his dedication to environmental conservation, public service, and the advancement of STEM and scientific leadership in Jamaica.
Ainsley is an alumnus of the Faculty of Science and Technology, UWI Mona, where he earned a BSc in Botany/Zoology and an MPhil in Environmental Management. He is also the current President of the UWI Alumni Association – FST Mona Chapter, reflecting his ongoing commitment to supporting students and alumni of his alma mater.
