The Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, Mona extends congratulations to Dr. Arpita Mandal (Senior Lecturer, Department of Geography and Geology) on her acceptance as a Supervisor for the prestigious King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP) under the Climate Resilience Fellowship (CRF).
The KCFP Climate Resilience Fellowship is an international training and development initiative designed for mid-career professionals working in climate adaptation-related fields across Small Island Developing States within the Commonwealth. The inaugural cohort, which commenced in February 2026, includes thirty (30) fellows representing fifteen (15) countries and a wide range of professional backgrounds and expertise.
The students will be arriving in Jamaica in June, during which they will visit the Rio Cobre Flood Warning System at the Bog Walk Gorge.
As a Supervisor within the programme, Dr. Arpita will play an integral role in guiding fellows throughout their academic and practical research journey. This includes supporting participants in the development of a 5,000-word project proposal, mentoring them through the completion of a 10,000-word master’s level dissertation, and providing ongoing academic guidance during the implementation of their climate resilience projects.
The postgraduate certificate programme is accredited by the University of Mauritius and combines online coursework with practical, impact-driven project implementation focused on strengthening climate adaptation and resilience across vulnerable island states.
Her participation in this important initiative further highlights the Faculty’s growing contribution to global climate resilience efforts and international academic collaboration.
We commend Dr. Arpita on this outstanding achievement and wish her continued success in supporting the upcoming climate resilience leaders across the Commonwealth.
