Dr. Deborah Hickling Gordon grounds her research, outreach and teaching in projections that the next era of global growth will be defined by the "Cultural Economy" and ensuing technologies; and that the Global South sits at the core of generating global abundance, built on the foundations of sovereignty and indigenous knowledge.
As a scholar-practitioner with over 30 years of experience in media and cultural applications, Deborah HIckling Gordon has studied the cultural economies of the Global South, advised governments and designed and built governance frameworks that align cultural wealth and the generation of sovereign economic power. Dr. Hickling Gordon operates at the intersection of cultural policy, economic strategy, media and communication and postcolonial development for countries of the Global South.
A two-term UNESCO Expert Facility member on Cultural Governance, her mission is to create enabling environments where cultural and creative practitioners in the Global South can thrive sustainably. An audiovisual producer by profession with international media credits with Lorimar and Children’s Television Workshop, producers of Sesame Street; and startup executive production credits for Jamaica's Public Service Broadcasting Corporation, UWI TV and several live, documentary and other broadcast products her goal is to bridge the gap between cultural identity and economic prosperity.
