Ms Althea Gordon Appointed Open Campus Registrar

Ms Althea Gordon, new Campus Registrar at The UWI, Open Campus.

Ms. Althea Gordon has been appointed Campus Registrar of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus. Ms Gordon’s appointment takes effect on August 1, 2021. She replaces Mrs Karen Ford-Warner who retires at the end of July 2021.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Francis Severin as Interim Principal of its Open Campus effective August 1, 2021. The appointment was approved at the Annual Business Meeting of University Council held on Friday April 30, 2021 via Zoom.

The current Principal, Dr Luz Longsworth will retire on July 31 this year after serving for six years.

The UWI to roll out new Financial Culture

The University of the West Indies’ Executive Management Team embarks on a planning retreat on Wednesday, July 14 in order to roll out a new operational plan to deal with the financial challenges facing the institution as a result of shortfalls in expected revenues.
Many students and governments are experiencing difficulties in meeting financial obligations to the University in respect of tuition fees and related economic costs for teaching and learning.

UWI, Mona withdraws from Premier League amidst financial crunch

The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, has withdrawn from the upcoming Premier League ahead of plans by Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) to return to the field of play under the Government’s latest relaxed COVID-19 restrictions. 

The UWI, Mona, which created history in 2015 when it qualified for the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), has been struggling over the last few years to effectively meet the financial obligations required to keep The UWI Football Club (UWI FC), playing at this level.
