UWI Mona Faculty of Engineering retains ABET Accreditation for Electronics Engineering Program

The Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering offered by the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) at The University of the West Indies Mona, has retained its full accreditation by ABET. This follows program evaluations conducted during the 2019-2020 accreditation cycle by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.

ABET is the premier global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. ABET currently accredits 4,144 programs in 812 colleges and universities across 32 countries.

Faculty of Medical Sciences brings ASPIRE Award for Excellence in Social Accountability to Mona

The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus has made history in becoming the first in Latin America and the Caribbean to receive the ASPIRE Award for Excellence in Social Accountability. The University, through the FMS, is the 17th training institution worldwide to receive this award. The announcement was made in September 2020.

The ASPIRE to Excellence Programme, administered by the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), has been established to go beyond the traditional accreditation process.

Faculty of Social Science students to benefit from GMI Mentorship Program

Several students from The Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of the West Indies, (The UWI) Mona, have been selected and will shortly embark on an international mentorship experience with the Global Mentorship Initiative Program (GMI) out of the US. The idea behind this initiative is to match students with mentors who have significant international experience and knowledge in an effort to create more market-ready graduates.

Sir Hilary Beckles shares plans to reposition The UWI for 2025

Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles recently congratulated his strategy and leadership group for successfully guiding the University through the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. He called upon the region to recognise the excellent work done by the teams on all campuses across the region in transitioning the University to full online/remote teaching and management, enabling students to progress through their programmes of study.

UWI Professor led UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to adopt new General Recommendation

Prof Verene Shepherd _temporary exhibit of black achievers at UN, New Yo...The United Nations International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), has adopted General Recommendation 36 (GR36), which aims to prevent and combat racial profiling by law enforcement officials. The document is the result of two years of consultation, and the final drafting and adoption were led by Professor Verene Shepherd of The University of the West Indies (The UWI).

2020-25 Convergence: Beginning Phase 2 of Nation Building

Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), has asserted that the Caribbean region is amid a moment of convergence, in which international crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic downturn are driving a level of intimacy between CARICOM states that holds tremendous potential for the future.  

Vice-Chancellor Beckles made these remarks during a virtual media engagement session called “CARICOM, The UWI, Biden, and the Future of our Voice”, held in November.
