UWI completes successful first staging of Vaccination Blitz

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus on Tuesday (April 13, 2021) completed the first staging of the Vaccination Blitz on the Mona Campus operating a site on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Wellness. The efforts were led by the Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre (MAWC) with the support of UWI Medical students, administrators, alumni, Professors and medical doctors from the Faculty of Medical Sciences who administered the vaccine. Thanks to their efforts some 7621 persons received their first jabs including over 300 persons in their vehicles who unable to access the Centre. This total represents 10% of the vaccines administered island-wide.

The UWI: Among the Best in the West

Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has described the University as “among the best universities in the West”. Sir Hilary was speaking during a presentation as keynote speaker at last week’s gathering of the Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA). The 190-member body for senior University managers (Registrars, Chief Operating Officers, and Heads of Administration) in the UK and Ireland, with Associate Members in other countries, represents 140 institutions.

UWI Rallies Relief for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Amid the series of eruptions from the La Soufrière volcano, parts of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and neighbouring islands have been blanketed in ash and smoke since April 9. To provide support and relief to those affected, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is mobilising its resources and expertise.

Culminating with recent presentation by the Five Islands Campus, over the past few weeks the Councils that govern the campuses of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) heard how the regional University has fared favourably over the 2019-2020 academic year.

Ending Royal Racism; The Republic and Reparations

Royalty, Racism, Republicanism & Reparation: Preparing for the 60th Anniversary of Nationhood in the CARICOM Region was the theme of the virtual Vice-Chancellor’s Forum held on March 25, 2021 by The University of the West Indies (UWI). A collaborative effort of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Centre for Reparation Research (CRR), the forum marked the annual International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
