Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Launched on the Mona Campus

The UWI secures largest grant ever - US$25 million

The University of the West Indies has secured an international grant of US$25 million, the largest in its history.

United States’ Silicon Valley digital technology giant, Eon Reality, announced its partnership with The UWI that will assure the significant investment in Caribbean digital education and professional training. The grant will see Eon Reality, the global technology conglomerate, entering the Caribbean market as a post-COVID education development leader.

UWI Alumni/Student Platform can now 'Connect' on New App

Members of The University of the West Indies St Augustine Campus community—past and present—now have access to a new communications tool developed to facilitate networking, information sharing, and a stronger sense of university identity. UWI Connect, a website and app alumni platform, was officially launched at a virtual ceremony on March 8.

“The goal of this platform,” said Ms Carol Ayoung, Acting Director of The UWI St Augustine’s Office of Institutional Advancement and Internationalisation (OIAI), “is to engage our alumni, students, colleagues, family and friends, and to give them a space to gather online while providing interesting information to the largest constituent group at The UWI.”

UWI Mona’s Faculty of Science and Technology targets “math phobia”

Mathematical anxiety, also referred to as “math phobia” is a common state of mind among students who often see the subject area as overly technical. As a result, there is an urgent need to find simple ways to solve and present complicated mathematical problems. Dr. Mahesha Narayana of the Department of Mathematics in The UWI Mona’s Faculty of Science and Technology and colleagues in India are on a mission to do just that. Their most recent step in this direction was the publication of their paper titled: On the differential transform method of solving boundary eigenvalue problems: An illustration which was recently published in the ZAMM‐Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics.

The work produced by University Marketing and Communications—the regional University’s central Marketing and Communications office—was recognised at the 36th annual Educational Advertising Awards (EduADAwards), announced on March 1, 2021.
