FD11A Mid Semester Examinations

The mid semester examination for the foundation course FD11A - Caribbean Civilisation takes place on Monday, March 12 at 5:00 p.m. The venues include: Assembly Hall for all Social Sciences students with surnames from A to R, Dramatic Theatre for all Humanities and Education, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences students with surnames from S to Z and Old Library for all Pure and Applied Sciences students.

Mona GeoInformaticS Training Course

Mona GeoInformaticS (MonaGIS) is offering Introductory and Advanced GIS training courses at the Mona Informatix Limited facility, UWI, Mona. Classes begin Monday, March 19 and ends Thursday, April 26. The Introductory Course has been extended and improved with the addition of Introduction to Cartography and an extended 3D Spatial Modelling Module.

Over 3000 E-Books Now Available at the Library

The library now subscribes to NetLibrary which allows the university population access to over 3000 digital versions of books. Each month the library will highlight Netlibrary’s ebook of the month. The e-book for the month of March and subsequent months may be accessed at: http://www.netlibrary.com or from the link at NetLibrary on the Library’s homepage at http://www.mona.uwi.edu/library

Panel discussion on “The Legacy of Sir Frank Worrell”

A panel discussion on “The Legacy of Sir Frank Worrell” will be held on Monday, March 12, at 3 pm. in Chemistry Lecture Theatre 5, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, UWI, Mona. The panel will include Rohan Kanhai, Lance Gibbs, Tony Becca, Dr. Jerry Alexander and Cedric Harper.

PSCCA Receives 14 Nominations for Actor Boy Award

The University Players, re-established in 2003 as the resident theatre company for the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA), UWI, received an unprecedented fourteen nominations for the upcoming Actor Boy Awards, 2006. The nominations are for two productions which the company staged last year, the first being "Maharani's Misery", based on the book of the same name by UWI's Professor Verene Shepherd, adapted for the stage by PSCCA Staff Tutor, Brian Heap and students of the Centre's course in Twentieth Century Theatre and Polly Teale's "After Mrs. Rochester."

Second Event Planning and Management Workshop

The Reggae Studies Unit in collaboration with the Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, UWI, Mona will be offering a second workshop on Event Planning and Management on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 at 9: 00 am daily in the Institute for Hospitality & Tourism Conference Room. The workshop is in response to the numerous opportunities presented by the entertainment fraternity for well-planned events.

The Competitiveness of Small Vulnerable Economies: Insights from the Caribbean

Academics and other persons engaged in research on the Caribbean are invited to submit articles for a special issue of The Round Table to be published in 2008 on the Caribbean. This issue will focus on the Competitiveness of the Small Vulnerable Economies of the Caribbean region. The Round Table, is Britain’s oldest international affairs journal that provides analysis and commentary on all aspects of international affairs.

Vice Chancellor Calls for Sixty Exceptional UWI Academics under 60 years old

"The University of the West Indies has begun the process of Planning for a University-wide celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the institution. We would like to prepare a Publication entitled "60 Exceptional UWI Academics". I am seeking the help of the full UWI Community in identifying twenty academics under 40 years old, twenty between 40 and 50 years old and twenty between 50 and 60 years old who have made exceptional scholarly contributions, particularly if some of those contributions have benefited the Region.

“Is Jamaica Ready to Telecommute?”

Dr. Noel Cowell, Head of the Department of Management Studies will be the second presenter in the Research Seminar Series presented by the Department of Management Studies, UWI, Mona. He will present on the topic: “Is Jamaica Ready to telecommute?” on Thursday, March 15 in SR15 at 1 pm. These Research Series are designed to provide an occasion where faculty members can present research and receive critical feedback.

"Jamaica’s Political Development: The Way Forward”

The Jamaica Fulbright-Humphrey Alumni Association (JFHAA), with the support of the United States Embassy will present a lecture by Professor Trevor Munroe, entitled “Jamaica’s Political Development: The Way Forward” at Sts. Peter & Paul Church Hall on Thursday March 8 at 5:30 p.m. This is a part of the Fulbright-Humphrey Quarterly Alumni Speaker Series which is aimed at positively stimulating, enlightening and informing public discourse on issues of national significance.
