Appointment of Three New Resident Tutors
The University of the West Indies has announced the appointment, effective August 1, 2005, of three new Resident Tutors to head the UWI School of Continuing Studies in Dominica, Grenada and Montserrat, respectively. In Dominica, retired Resident Tutor Ms. Edith Bellot will be succeeded by Mr. Francis Severin, a Dominican national who has, since 1999, served as Programme Officer in the Office of Administration and Special Initiatives of the Vice Chancellery of the University, based at Mona. Candidates Writing Examinations
Effective Monday July 4, 2005, ALL candidates writing examinations during supplemental/Summer School 2005 are requested to collect their Examination Cards at the Examinations Section from Tuesday, July 5 to Thursday, July 7 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Fifteen to be Awarded Honorary Degrees in 2005 UWI Graduation Ceremonies
The University of the West Indies (UWI) will award fifteen honorary degrees at graduation ceremonies to be held at its three campuses at Cave Hill, Barbados, Mona, Jamaica and St. Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, later this year.

UTCWI 40th Anniversary Alumni Home Coming
The United Theological College of the West Indies 40th Anniversary Alumni Home Coming which was scheduled for June 30 – July 1, 2005 at Cranbrook Farms in St. Ann has been postponed. A new date will be announced. UTCWI wishes to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
UWI Development and Endowment Fund receives Donation
The UWI Development and Endowment Fund has received a donation of some Ninety Million Jamaican Dollars (J$90M)from the Banyan Tree Foundation in Canada. Banyan Tree provides gifts to charities that operate programmes geared towards promoting development and self reliance. The Development and Endowment Fund is a non-profit organization which raises funds to support developmental activities at the UWI. The fund has allocated numerous scholarships, coordinates internship opportunities and has been involved in a number of refurbishing projects at Mona.
UWI Mona and Super Plus Sign Agreement
The University of the West Indies, Mona and Super Plus Food Stores have signed an Agreement to provide funding for research programmes at the Natural Products Institute. The commitment under the “Super Plus Graduate Research Grant” is worth J$1.5M over an initial period of 3 years. The Agreement was signed on Tuesday, June 21 by the Principal of the Mona Campus, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor the Honourable Kenneth Hall and Chief Executive Office of Super Plus, Wayne Chen.
Cricket Match
The annual UWI Alumni XI vs. British High Commission match is scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 9 at the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Ground at the Mona Campus, Kingston 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Last year the British High Commission won the match and this year the Alumni intend to be victorious. The University public is invited to attend.
Geological Society of Jamaica
The Geological Society of Jamaica invites you to a public lecture on Thursday June 23 at 6:00 p.m. at the Interfaculty Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona. The lecture is entitled: “Rising to the Challenge: Securing Jamaica’s energy future by Searching for Oil and Gas”. The presenter will be Dr. Raymond Wright, Group Managing Director of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica. Monica 'Molly' Carrington
The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work is saddened by the passing of Mrs. Monica 'Molly' Carrington. Mrs. Carrington served as a Senior Secretary in the Department for over 25 years until her retirement. The UWI community expresses sincere condolences to family and friends of Mrs. Carrington.
