Award Winning Southern African Author Delivers Public Lecture at UWI, Mona

Elinor Sisulu, Zimbabwean-born/South African citizen, and award winning author will deliver a public lecture entitled Mrs. Sisulu’s Husband: Gender Relations in an African Marriage on Monday, April 23 at 5.30 pm in the Multifunctional Room of the Main Library, UWI, Mona.

Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture

The Department of History and Archaeology presents the 23rd Annual Elsa Goveia Memorial Lecture under the theme “Taking Leave: Fugitive Slaves and the coming of the American Civil War.” The Lecture takes place on Wednesday, May 9 at 6 pm at the Phillip Sherlock Centre of the Creative Arts, Mona Campus
Professor Richard Blackett, Andrew Jackson Professor of History, Tennessee, USA, will deliver the Lecture.

ID Reminder

Members of staff and students are reminded that they should have a valid UWI identification card (ID) at all times in their possession and this should be displayed while on the campus.

Renewal of SLB Loans

The Student Loan Bureau wishes to advise all UWI students with current student loans and who wish to renew their student loans for the 2007/8 academic year that they are required to purchase a status report form, to be completed and returned to the Student Loan Bureau before April 27. Failure to do so will negate that loan for the 2007/8 academic year. Students who wish to be considered for a Grant-in-aid must reapply in full.

Research Ethics Workshop

Caribbean Research Ethics Initiative Joint UWI (Mona) and University of Miami Bioethics Programme presents a Research Ethics Workshop to be held on Friday, May 4 from 2-5 pm at the Rose Hall Resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica. The theme for the workshop is "Research integrity" and topics for discussion include: "Research ethics and you", "Recruitment of subjects", "Advertising in research", "Data collection and analysis" and "Authorship and publication".

Secretary Day Luncheon

The Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Center will host its annual Secretary Day Luncheon on Wednesday, April 25 at 12 noon. Ity and Fancy Cat will provide entertainment at the Luncheon.

Sir Frank Walcott Symposium

The Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute and the Barbados Unit of the School of Continuing Studies in collaboration with the Barbados Workers Union, invites submissions for presentation at The Sir Frank Walcott Symposium. The symposium will be held from September 16 to 18 at ‘Solidarity House’ the Headquarters of the Barbados Workers Union, Bridgetown, Barbados under the theme “Celebrating a Trade Union Legend”.

The 39th Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Historians (ACH)

The Department of History and Archaeology, UWI, Mona will be hosting the 39th Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Historians (ACH) from May 6 -10. The Opening Ceremony will take place on May 6 at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona at 6 pm with the Honourable Maxine Henry-Wilson, Minister of Education and Youth, as the guest speaker.

UWI (Mona) & Community Co-op. Credit AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the UWI (Mona) & Community Co-op. Credit Union Ltd. Takes place on Thursday, April 26 at the Inter-Faculty Lecture Theatre, UWI commencing 2:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 2:00 p.m. The first 100 persons registered and seated will be eligible to
participate in a raffle.

To facilitate the Meeting, the Credit Union at UWI, Mona and at the University of Technology, Jamaica will be open between 7:30 a.m. and 11 am on April 26.

Valedictory Service

The annual Valedictory Service for final year students of the Mona Campus will be held on Sunday April 22 at 9 am at the University Chapel. Rev. Fr. Dr. Lester O. Shields will conduct the service and Rev. Garth Minott will deliver the sermon. The Service features the University Singers.
