Bachelor of Education Part-time Online Programme for Secondary School Teachers
Applications are invited from secondary school teachers for admission of the Bachelor of Education Programme to be offered by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona for the upcoming academic year 2007/2008. The deadline for submission of application is Friday, April 20.
The Programme offers majors in the following: Language Education (English), History Education, Language Education (Spanish), Sciences Education (Chemistry), Mathematics Education and Computer Science/Information Technology Education.
CARIMAC Entrance Test Set for April 13
The Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) Entrance Test will be held on Friday, April 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the Assembly Hall, UWI Mona, and UWI School of Continuing Studies, Montego Bay for persons sitting the examinations in Jamaica. There are also designated test centres throughout the Caribbean for other regional candidates.
The test is open to persons who have applied to the University of the West Indies, and are interested in pursuing the Media and Communication major, as well as current UWI students wishing to transfer from other majors.
Congratulations -Paulette Griffiths
Paulette Griffiths-Jude, doctoral candidate of the Institute of Sustainable Development, UWI, Mona, has won an ACU split-site scholarship making her the third recipient of such a scholarship from Institute of Sustainable Development. She will therefore be based at the University of Surrey for a year. The ACU split-site scholarship is a highly competitive award with high standards receiving applications from nearly fifty countries.
Congratulations – Cheryl Brown
Cheryl Brown, Manager of the Office of Sponsored Research, UWI, Mona has been appointed a member of the Task Force to produce Volumes 3, 4 and 5 of the Association of Technology Managers (AUTM) Technical Transfer Practice (TTP) Manual, with specific responsibility as editor and reviewer for the third edition. The TTP is aimed at beginning to mid-level technology transfer professionals in university and business settings, patent lawyers and university administrators and is intended to serve as a basic training tool for practitioners.
Events Planning and Management Seminar
The Reggae Studies Unit in collaboration with the Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, UWI, Mona will again be offering a seminar in Event Planning and Management on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 between from 9:00 am and 3:30 pm daily at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre. The presenter for the seminar will be experience events planning and entertainment specialist, Samuel McCook

Members of staff and students are reminded that they should have a valid UWI identification card at all times in their possession and this should be displayed while on the campus.
Naming of Applied Chemistry Teaching and Research Laboratory
The Department of Chemistry, UWI, Mona will host a ceremony for the Naming of the Applied Chemistry Teaching and Research Laboratory in honour of Kenneth Magnus, Professor Emeritus. The Ceremony takes place on Wednesday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chemistry Gardens.
Reggae Studies Unit Public Discussions
The Reggae Studies will host two public discussions this week, the first of which features a presentation by pioneer dancehall artiste, King Yellow Man at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre (SSLT) on Thursday, April 12 at 2:30 pm. The Reggae/Rastafari Discussion Series continues on Friday, April 13 with Yasus Afari at 5:00 p.m. at the New Education Lecture Theatre (NELT) at 5:00 p.m.

UWI Community Deeply Saddened at the Passing of Professor Leslie Robinson
The University of the West Indies community is deeply saddened at the passing of Professor the Hon. Leslie Robinson on Wednesday, April 4. Professor Robinson, was a founding member of the academic staff of the then University College of the West Indies, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Acting Vice Chancellor, Director of Planning and the first Principal of the Mona Campus.
UWI Guild Elections Now April 10
The University of the West Indies, Mona wishes to advise that Guild of Students elections will be on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Assembly Hall. The present Guild Council is expected to continue until that time.
The University further advises that some students have requested an inquiry into certain aspects of the operations of the 2006/2007 Guild Council and that a Committee chaired by Mr. Peter O’Sullivan, Student Services Manager, Taylor Hall has been established to investigate these concerns.
