Ole Time Variety Concert

The United Theological College of the West Indies presents an Ole Time Variety Concert on Saturday, April 21 at 6:00 pm at the St. Andrew Parish Church Hall, Half Way Tree.

The concert is under the patronage of the Her Excellency the Most Honourable Mrs. Rheima Hall, wife of the Governor General of Jamaica.

Sexuality Workshop

The Department of Sociology, Psychology & Social Work Clinical Psychology programme presents a Sexuality Workshop under the theme “The Changing Faces of Sex/Sexuality.” The workshop takes place on Friday, April 20 at 10 am in Graduate Lecture Theatre (GLT) 3, Sir Alister McIntyre Building. The presenters will be Anastasia Whyte, MSc. Applied Psychology Candidate and Dr. Karen Carpenter, Psychologist/Research Consultant.

Sir Frank Walcott Symposium

The Hugh Lawson Shearer Trade Union Education Institute and the Barbados Unit of the School of Continuing Studies in collaboration with the Barbados Workers Union, invites submissions for presentation at The Sir Frank Walcott Symposium. The symposium will be held from September 16 to 18 at ‘Solidarity House’ the Headquarters of the Barbados Workers Union, Bridgetown, Barbados under the theme “Celebrating a Trade Union Legend”.

• Are your home and office safe and hazard- free? E.g. Do you know where the circuit breakers are? Are cleaners and chemicals safely stored? Do you have a “fire-exit” plan? If you cannot answer yes to all these questions then you need to immediately take action to make your environment safer for you and the others who share your space.

WIGUT Annual General Meeting

Members of WIGUT (Jamaica) are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting on Thursday, April 26 at 3:30 pm in the Multifunctional Room of the Main Library.

In order to nominate individuals for all the available posts please visit the WIGUT (Jamaica) Secretariat office for the required nomination form. Election for all positions will be conducted at the Annual General Meeting.

World Haemophilia Day

World Haemophilia Day is being celebrated this Tuesday, April 17 under the theme Improve your Life. However, the University Hospital of the West Indies will mount a poster display on April 18, showing useful exercises for haemophiliacs. There will also be a clinical presentation by orthopaedic surgeons and haematologists in the Main Medical Lecture Theatre beginning at 5 pm on April 18.

Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture Series’

The Department of Literatures in English hosts the inaugural lecture in the Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 5:30 pm at The Undercroft, Senate Building, UWI. Professor Baugh will give his lecture on the topic “Frank Collymore and West Indian Literature.” His book Derek Walcott will also be launched on the occasion.

6th Annual Careers in Ageing Week

The sixth Annual Career in Ageing Week is being celebrated from April 8 to 14. The week of activities is being hosted by the Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre and PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Ageing and Health in the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry.
The week’s activities kick off on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. with an Opening Ceremony in the Master of Public Health Building, Department of Community Health and Psychiatry.

A. Z. Preston Hall Week

The Aston Z. Preston Hall Week runs from April 12-19 beginning with the Fifth A. Z. Preston Memorial Lecture. The Lecture takes place at the Undercroft, Senate Building, the University of the West Indies, Mona on Thursday April 12 at 2:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Professor Barry Chevannes, Professor of Social Anthropology, UWI, Mona. His presentation is entitled “Re-engineering Social Consciousness: The Role of the UWI in Promoting Social Justice in Caribbean Societies”.
