5th Annual 'Careers in Ageing Week'

The Mona Ageing and Wellness Centre, Department of Community Health and Psychiatry, invites you to a celebration of its 5th Annual 'Careers in Ageing Week' from April 17 - 21. The Opening is scheduled for Thursday April 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon at the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry. An Exhibition will be mounted along with a multi-media display showcasing the opportunities available for persons seeking a career change or embarking on a profession in a new and exciting field.

Major construction activity is taking place in the Registry/Bursary area as the UWI, Mona Campus continues efforts to improve the delivery of services by these departments and more efficiently service the requirements of its students, staff and the wider community.

Applications for 2007 Fulbright/LASPAU Scholarship

The US Embassy Office of Public Affairs would like to bring to your attention the 2007 Fulbright/LASPAU (Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities) Faculty Development Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Scholarships are available for full-time lecturers at tertiary level institutions in Jamaica to undertake master's- or doctoral-level study at U.S. universities beginning in August/September, 2007.

Condolences

The University of the West Indies extends condolences to the family and friends of the late Nina Ballen, retired member of staff, Bursary, UWI, Mona who died on Thursday, March 30.

Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy

St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Denzil Douglas will deliver a keynote address at the second Conference on Caribbean Philanthropy scheduled for May 2 – 5 at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club, Montego Bay Jamaica. Mr. Douglas, will focus on the Role of CARICOM in facilitating regional prosperity through philanthropy-driven social and economic development.

Fifth International Drama in Education Research Institute

Submissions of proposals for academic papers and workshops under the theme - "Returning the Gaze, Reclaiming the Voice - Post-colonialism and its implications for Drama and Education" are invited for presentation at the Fifth International Drama in Education Research Institute (IDIERI). The Institute will be hosted by the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (P.S.C.C.A.), U.W.I., from July 13 - July 18, 2006. Prospective delegates are requested to submit an abstract of 100-150 words by April 28, 2006, to Conference Co-ordinator Brian Heap, U.W.I.

Globalization, Crime and Security

The Department of Government’s Lecture Series continues with Professor Anthony Harriott speaking on the topic “Globalisation, Crime and Security.” The lecture will take place on Friday, April 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Multifunctional Room, Main Library, UWI, Mona. The public is invited.

Graduate Research Series

The Jamaican Language Unit in the Department of Language Linguistics and Philosophy will host the Penultimate Workshop in the Graduate Research Series: Making Sense of the Data on Monday April 24, from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Faculty of Humanities and Education. The cost is $5000 for all graduate researchers in the middle of their research.

Jamaica Wellness Tour

The “Jamaica Wellness Tour”, a project of the Rotary Club of Liguanea plains in Association with the Shipping Association of Jamaica, Blue Cross Jamaica and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, will be officially launched at the UWI Health Centre on Monday, April 10.

Applications are now being invited for Research and Publications and Graduate Awards. Applications forms are available on website at www.mona.uwi.edu/postgrad (‘documents’ tool bar). Applicants should complete application and submit 1 copy electronically to postgrag@uwimona.edu.jm by April 25, 2006. Submit 2 hard copies signed by Head of Department and Supervisor (student’s form) no later than April 25, 2006.
