International Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day
The Nursing Midwifery Research Centre of The UWI School of Nursing, Mona (UWISON), will be hosting an International Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day, under the theme “Changing Visions to Reality through Nursing Research 1966-2006”. The Conference will be held from June 1-3, 2006, at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Hotel, Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
This year’s conference is a special occasion for UWISON, as the School celebrates 40 years of dedicated service to the development of nursing education in the Caribbean.
Jamaica National Bicentenary Logo Competition (1807-2007)
In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans to the Caribbean, the Ministry of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture, in association with the Jamaica Bicentenary Planning Committee is sponsoring a logo competition under the theme “Our Freedom Journey … Honouring Our Ancestors”.
Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies conducts Campus survey
The Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies is currently conducting a survey of the experiences of UWI's graduating cohort from the three campuses and UWI-12 sites.
Bearing in mind the significant value of the results of this survey to the University in its efforts at creating a positive learning environment, the Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies urges students to participate in the exercise.

UWI Signs Agreement with Breakfast Club Ltd
The Finance and General Purposes Committee of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus at its meeting held on March 22, 2006, formally approved arrangements made between the Mona Campus and Breakfast Club Company Limited (BCL) aimed at developing Radio Mona into a profitable venture. Under the terms of the Agreement, the UWI and BCL have established a new company, Universal Media Company Limited to develop the station.
UWI Swimmers Excel in Curacao
A 20-member team of swimmers from the Mona Campus of the UWI recently returned to the island after winning 7 golds, 9 silvers and 9 bronze medals to finish 2nd to the Netherland Antilles with 398 points at the Studenten Sport Federatie Nederlandse Antillen (SSFNA) Swim Meet in Curacao held from April 17 to 19.
2nd Annual Research Ethics Conference
The Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies, through the Office of Sponsored Research in collaboration with the University of Miami Bioethics Programme will be hosting the 2nd Annual Research Ethics Conference from May 19-20.
Film on "La Pluma Del Archangel
The Venezuelan Embassy and its Institute for Culture and Cooperation, in association with the Latin American - Caribbean Centre (LACC) will be screening the film "La Pluma Del Archangel" ("The Archangel's Feather) at 6.30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), Faculty of Humanities and Education. The film is in Spanish with subtitles in English. Admission is free and refreshments will be offered before the film.
Gender and Development Studies
The Mona Campus Unit, Centre for Gender and Development Studies, takes this opportunity to welcome its new Head / Senior Lecturer, Dr. Leith Dunn to the University community.
Dr Leith L. Dunn is a Jamaican social scientist with a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Languages and Social Sciences and a M.Sc. in Sociology and Social Psychology from the University of the West Indies.
Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning
The initial call for the fourth Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning (PCF4), which will address the theme ‘Achieving Development Goals: Innovation, Learning, Collaboration and Foundations’, resulted in some 300 abstracts being submitted. The PCF4 is organized by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in association with a Caribbean Consortium led by the UWIDEC.
