Book Launch

Understanding Crime in Jamaica: New Challenges for Public Policy, a new book edited by Anthony Harriott, and published by the University of the West Indies Press, will be launched Wednesday, February 11 at 6:00 p.m. The launch will take place during the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Conference on Crime and Criminal Justice in the Caribbean, at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge, UWI, Mona Campus.

Commemoration Celebrations

The UWI, Mona Campus is once again organising celebrations to commemorate the founding of the Institution. The celebrations will take place over the period Friday, February 13 to Saturday, February 21. The honoree this year will be the Vice Chancellor, Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford. The celebrations begin with a Flag Raising Ceremony & University Parade on February 13 at 9:00 a.m. The parade, involving staff, students and alumni of the UWI, will begin at 8 .45 a.m. at the University Chapel. The guest speaker will be poet and retired UWI Public Orator, Professor Edward Baugh.

Inaugural Graduate Students’ Conference

The UWI Mona Association of Postgraduate Students and the School for Graduate Studies and Research, in collaboration with the Research Consortium, invite interested persons to participate in the Inaugural Graduate Students’ Conference, to be held at Mona from February 19 to 20. The theme of the Conference is “Graduate Studies and Research: Imperatives for Regional Growth and Development”. Instructional Development Unit

The Instructional Development Unit will be hosting a Course Design: Translating Objectives: Structuring Learning Task workshop on February 12, 2004 in the IDU's Training Room, located upstairs Interfaculty Lecture Theatre. The workshop will start at 12:30 p.m. and end at 2:00 pm. The presenters will be Dr. Beryl Allen, Head IDU and Ms Meta Bogle formerly from the Department of Educational Studies.

Intimate Relationship Workshop Series

The Counselling Services at the UWI Mona Health Centre is offering a series of Workshops on Intimate Relationships. The series of four workshops will be held in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) Faculty of Humanities and Education from 2:00 to 4:00 each Thursday afternoon until February 26.. Topics to be covered include: Choosing to be involved in an Intimate Relationship - What to look for in a Partner; Love Versus Infatuation; Sex and Romance; Handling Conflicts and Break Ups and Handling Disagreements.

Logo Competition

The Committee of Pure and Applied Sciences, UWI Mona is inviting students of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences to enter its Logo Competition. Students are being challenged to create a logo for the Faculty. Only Pure and Applied Sciences students are eligible to enter and students may enter more than once. Entries must be submitted on diskette or CD with the entrants identification number only. The entry fee per logo entered is $100 and the deadline for submitting entries is February 29, 2004.

Office of Placement and Career Services’ Career Month

The Office of Placement and Career Services invites finalizing students to be a part of Mock Interviews to be held on Friday, February 20, 2004 in the Assembly Hall. Students should visit the Office as early as possible but before February 9, 2004 in order to schedule interview times.

UWI Medical Alumni USA Chapter

The UWI Medical Alumni, USA Chapter will host a Presentation of Stethoscopes to the Class of 2008, a gift from the USA Chapter, at the UWI Main Medical Lecture Theatre on Monday, February 9 at 4:00 p.m. The presentation of Stethoscopes will be done by Dr. Hardat Sukhdeo, President, USA Chapter.

Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme

The Office of Placement and Career Services at UWI, Mona is organising its Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme for finalising students from March 29 to April 26. The programme allows employers who require candidates to fill permanent vacancies in their organisations to interview graduating students. All finalising students who have not yet done so are asked to collect their packages from the Office of Placement and Career Services. Those students who have collected packages are reminded that they must now return to the Office to sign up for interviews.
