Hermione C. McKenzie, Sociologist and Senior
Lecturer in the UWI Mona’s Department of Sociology, Psychology
and Social Work, is a graduate of the London School of Economics
and Brandeis University. She has published widely on issues relating
to gender, family, family planning, education and social development
policies. She has prepared numerous reports for Government, Statutory
and Private Sector Organisations on issues ranging from family
planning and community development to socio-economic development
in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. She has also presented many
papers at local and international conferences and symposia, served
on many University Committees and contributed to public service
in Jamaica. She has served as a member of several organisations
such as the Jamaica Council of Voluntary Social Services. She
has contributed significantly to the women’s movement in
the Caribbean, serving as a member of the Jamaican delegation
to the UN’s ‘End-of-Decade Conference’ on Women
in Nairobi in 1985 and as former Convenor of the Women’s
Studies Working Group at the UWI, Mona.
