This is the first issue of the first volume of the Journal of Education and Development in the Caribbean. This is a refereed journal that has three main objectives: (i) to provide an outlet for the deliberations and research which must inform educational decision-making and development issues in the the Caribbean; (ii) to provide a linkage between professionals, including classroom teachers, who are interested or involved in Caribbean education and; (iii) to assist in the dissemination of findings from studies which, though carried out in other parts of the world, hold relevance for education and development in the Caribbean.
