During the 1985-86 academic year a new programme was offered at UWI, St. Augustine. Originating from the expressed needs of the teachers and administrators of the schools for the deaf in Trinidad and Tobago, the Advanced Certificate in the Education of the Hearing Impaired came into being. What was this programme and what did we learn from it? Although this programme was for a small group of special educators, many parallels can be drawn between this experience and that of other special educators of the Caribbean.
