
With the conclusion of the Jamaica National Trials, the University of the West Indies Sports Department would like to congratulate our athletes who performed admirably at the Championship. The trials saw the entry of 6 UWI Athletes contesting various track events such as: 100m(m), 200m (m&f), 110mH(m), 800m(m) and 300m steeplechase (m).
Oakley Coke and Darrell Garwood are the Jamaica National Champions in their respective events, Coke in the 3000m Steeplechase with a PR 10.57.37 and Garwood with a height of 2.10m, while Jowayne Hibbert smashed his PR clocking 1.49.93 placing fourth in the 800m finals. David Dunn contested both the 100m and 200m, where he ranked 19th in the preliminaries moving to the quarter finals of the 100m with a time of 10.36s and advanced to the semi finals of the 200m with a time of 21.43s. Both Jason Young and Hansle Parchment made it to the finals of their individual events, 200m and 110mH respectively, where Parchment ran 13.50s to place fifth and Young ran a PR of 20.52s in his semis and then 20.68s to place 7th in the finals. Our lone female athlete Lesline Gilzene contested the 200m where she ran 24.35s in the preliminary rounds.
