UWI honors Hansle Parchment's golden performance

The University of the West Indies, Mona, under the distinguished patronage of Principal and Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Gordon Shirley; hosted a Special Recognition Ceremony in honor of Hansle Parchment Golden run in the recently concluded London 2012 Olympics.

Parchment became the first Jamaican to medal in the 11o meters Hurdles when he secured the bronze medal during the Finals of the men’s 110m hurdles in a time of 13.12 seconds at the Games. He is the first UWI, Mona student to have medaled at the Olympics Games and now holds the National and CARICOM record over the distance. Hansle Parchment is a third year UWI, Mona student pursing a degree in Psychology and a recipient of the Mona Sports Scholarship.

Other members in attendance included members of his immediate family, Olympian and Hansle's manager, Juliet Campbell, Coach Fitz Coleman, Deputy Principal- Professor Archibald McDonald, Director of Sports Dalton Myers, World University Games Silver medalist over 200m and Jamaica's fourth fastest runner over the distance- Jason Young, members of the UWI family and other specially invited guests.
