Since its establishment in 2008, the UWI Mona WJC has endeavoured to build partnerships at both the corporate and community levels, across the civic, public and educational sectors, and with industries that positively impact life in the city of Montego Bay and the wider Western region. We are therefore active members of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as the Global Services Association of Jamaica and provide leadership and direction on the Boards of several community-based organizations, educational institutions, and public health bodies, including the newly established Monsignor Gladstone Wilson College for Boys, the Mayor's Advisory Council, and the Western Regional Health Authority. The Mona Social Services and UWI Community Film Project are also strong players in community enterprise and initiatives.

Student leaders and their contemporaries have been making a mark on local and world stages. For example, the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Lasco-NAJ Nursing Student of the Year all hailed from the UWI School of Nursing at WJC. Three valedictorians at the Mona graduation ceremonies and several recipients of coveted scholarships to graduate programmes locally and internationally have emerged from the campus over the last six years.
The UWI Mona WJC has also led critical research in crime, culture, governance, and mental health as well as hosted annual public lectures, seminars and symposia in the fields of higher education, mental wellness, tourism linkages, sustainable cities, and media and information technology.
