WJC 

In recognition of the growing demand for tertiary level educational institutions of distinction in Western Jamaica, and in keeping with its strategic objectives for 2007-2012, the UWI plans to establish a campus in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Western Jamaica Campus (WJC) will commence operations in August 2008 beginning with programmes specially designed to reflect the areas of significant growth and development in Western Jamaica.


Programmes Offered:

General Notes

  1. Persons holding an A.Sc. (from the Council of Community College, Jamaica) in Hospitality and/or Tourism Management or Business/Management Studies with a minimum GPA of 2.5 may be admitted part-time to Part II of the related programmes.


  2. The B.Sc. Hospitality and Tourism Management and B.Sc. Tourism Management programmes are only available part time. All other Faculty of Social Sciences programmes are available on a full-time and part-time basis.


  3. Persons applying to do these programmes at the WJC must first apply to the UWI Mona Campus and then submit a letter indicating their preference for the WJC along with their supporting documents to the UWI, Mona Admissions Section.


  4. Persons who wish to pursue the B.Sc. MIS programme should apply to the B.Sc. Management Studies (General) and indicate their preference for the B.Sc. MIS programme in the letter accompanying their documents.


  5. Limited student accommodation will be available at the WJC and interested applicants must indicate this in the letter accompanying their documents.

  1. Apply free of cost online to the UWI Mona Campus at www.mona.uwi.edu and submit a letter requesting the WJC (and accommodation if applicable) along with all supporting documents by January 31, 2008; OR

  2. Download the application form at http://www.mona.uwi.edu/admissions/forms/ and submit completed application form, letter requesting the WJC (and accommodation if applicable) along with supporting documents and relevant application fee payment receipt by January 31, 2008. English Language Proficiency Test


All applicants to UWI who do not possess a Grade 1 in C.S.E.C./C.X.C. English Language, or Grade A in G.C.E. English Language or Grade 1 or 2 in C.A.P.E. Communication Studies or Grade A in G.C.E. A/O General Paper or equivalent are required to take the English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT). To register for the ELPT please visit the website at www.mona.uwi.edu/dllp/language/elptu/

Student Amenities:


UWI WJC students will have an opportunity to engage in Student Enrichment and Community Development programmes resulting in balanced individuals who excel in educational and extra-curricular activities.

The WJC will also offer student amenities including limited residential accommodation, a computer lab, library, multipurpose playing court, and food concessions.

In addition, the campus is easily accessible as it is situated on the newly developed North Coast Highway into Montego Bay, and is 2 minutes from the Sangster International Airport.

The campus is also located in close proximity to Montego Bay’s numerous recreational opportunities and World-famous beaches.
