The Biotechnology Centre in an effort to promote agricultural pursuits reached out to Ms. Veronica Headman and Mr. Bernard Williams who farm around their home at the Bedward Gardens community in St. Andrew.

The Centre was slated to provide yam planting materials and to compensate the farmers for taking care of the plants that developed up to harvest. The produce from the yam propagules provided would be the farmers’ property which the Centre would purchase as the circumstances necessitate.

The planting of propagules and reaping of the resulting tubers began in March, 2018 and December, 2018 respectively. The farmers are pleased to interact with researchers from The Biotechnology Centre and they look forward for additional support.
