As we continue to navigate the deep and sorrowful situation in our country following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, The UWI Mona, once again, wants to stand with our students and their families during this difficult time.
As we reopen operations for face-to-face teaching and learning on November 3, 2025, we are mindful that a number of our students are still struggling to come to terms with the loss and damage from the dreadful hurricane. As such, we have included a high level of agility in our reopening process. Students who are unable to join us, whether due to mental fatigue, lack of access to basic amenities such as road networks, internet connections, etc., we ask that you reach out to us when you can. We will discuss with you options for teaching and learning, including alternative assessment for this semester. You can make the choice that is most suitable for your circumstances, and we will facilitate. Please contact the Office of the Deputy Principal by email at odp.monaappeals@uwimona.edu.jm or by WhatsApp at (876) 577-7631.
If you will not be able to connect with us for the remainder of the semester, we will facilitate your re-engagement during the next semester, beginning in January 2026. We are standing with you as you navigate the recovery.
As soon as face-to-face operations resume, it is mandated that all classes be recorded and the material placed in the course container, so that students can access it at their own pace. Lecturers will also be agile and accommodate late submissions of assignments and other class-related activities. This is part of our commitment to you as an agile academy.
Especially to our students in the county of Cornwall and those communities in Middlesex and Surrey that were also badly hit by the hurricane, again, we want to express empathy and assure you that we are here to help you recover stronger.
