Further to the last advisory to the Campus Community on October 23, 2025, the Management Team of the Campus met today to further assess the situation with respect to the continued threat of Hurricane Melissa. The latest information from the Meteorological Office is that the island is already experiencing tropical storm conditions which is projected to evolve to hurricane like impact by tomorrow, with landfall in south-central Jamaica and the hurricane traversing the island from south to north on Tuesday. Given the widespan of the system, the entire island is expected to experience the impact of the hurricane.
Given this prognosis, we are advising that the Campus will be closed from October 27th – 29th. If the current projection continues, Wednesday, October 29th will be used to execute our impact assessment with a view to have teaching and learning online, synchronously and asynchronously, on October 30th and 31st. All other operations of the Campus will also be conducted online. All being well, we expect to resume full face-to-face operations on Monday, November 3rd.
We are also mindful of the loss of scheduled teaching and learning engagements and are therefore contemplating adjusting the start and end of the final assessment period for Semester One 2025-2026. Once these discussions are finalized the Campus Community will be advised.
In the meanwhile, we urge all members of our community to take the utmost care to secure lives and livelihood, even as we assure our regional and international students that remain in our halls of residence that we will continue to do everything in our power to ensure their safety and welfare throughout this difficult period.
Please continue to pay close attention to official releases from the Campus with further updates.
