Overview
Ricardo Hickling is a researcher and field specialist. He is currently serving in the capacity of Scientific Officer at the UWI Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory, with focus on water quality and water chemistry.
Since the start of his career, he has done research with top institutions and has contributed to numerous academic studies locally and internationally- encompassing water chemistry, marine conservation, evolutionary biology, microbiology, pharmacognosy and anti-cancer research.
Before joining the DBML family, he had experience as manager of an anticancer screening laboratory, analyst and technician in a natural products research laboratory on the mona campus, and as research assistant for Harvard University.
Mr. Hickling has also done a share of philanthropic duty in pioneering the “FST Job Shadowing” initiative with the Office of Student Services and Development- Placement and Careers Services. This afforded STEM students the opportunity to work alongside researchers within their field of study to garner much needed work experience, earning him recognition from the University of the West Indies at their 2021/22 Student Awards ceremony.
Ricardo holds a bachelor’s degree in biotechnology minoring in plant biology, certificates in disaster risk financing, career advisory, and photography and is a licensed PADI advanced diver and Reef Check EcoDiver.
