Brown Bag Seminar - March 7, 2024: The City Speaks - in Brick, Zinc and Mortar

Thursday, 7 March 2024 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm
Lab 1 or via Zoom (Meeting Code 974 1603 3184 Password CitySpeaks)

The emergence of our capital city tells the story of a people who, once-upon-a-time, were determined to do more than just exist. It speaks of a formidable intent to assemble, collaborate, and express the fullness of corporate identity and purpose.
In the quest for progress, however, the plight of the vulnerable has been overlooked, their voice muzzled, and their existential value diminished.
But even the grand cityscape that boasts of prosperity cannot magically erase the interposed board houses and zinc fences.
As builders of tomorrow, we must aptly consider the imperfect evolution of our ecosystem and purposefully shape the landscape of the built environment to confidently speak of its pain as loudly as it does of its glory.
This presentation describes the city as a living organism. It also addresses the importance of including vulnerable citizen subgroups as active contributors to the progressive design and development of the built environment. This mode of engagement will create an urban landscape that exemplifies resilience, integrity, and an ever-evolving canvas on which the next generation can thrive
