Overview

Rajne Reynolds research falls in the general category of palaeoclimatology. He investigates sediment cores recovered from mangrove ecosystems to document periods of environmental change and extreme weather that extend beyond the current instrumental meteorological record. The proxies that are investigated include foraminiferal assemblages, organic carbon, and sediment lithology. His long-term goal is for his research to provide information on the frequency and intensity of prehistoric tropical cyclones that impacted the Caribbean region. Policymakers can utilize this information for their disaster risk management planning. Rajne believes that this type of work is important given the Caribbean’s vulnerability to hydrometeorological hazards and the uncertainties brought about by climate change.
