The UWI Mona’s Professor Rachael Irving, Professor of Biochemistry and Sport Science in the Faculty of Medical Sciences will be delivering her Inaugural Lecture on Friday, June 21, 2024at 4 p.m. Sir Kenneth Standard Lecture Theatre in The Faculty of Medical Sciences Teaching and Research Complex.
The lecture will be delivered under the theme, Decode: Unveiling the Legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in Chronic Diseases and Athletic Performance using AI and Genetics. As a part of the inaugural professorial lecture, Prof Irving will be breaking down the connections between slavery, diseases and athletic prowess in a fascinating interplay with AI.
With the Summer Olympics, just a few weeks away, this inaugural lecture is timely as it will address important sub-topics to include illustrations of the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade effects on contemporary health and athletic performance. Prof Irving will address how AI and genetics can be used as keys to unravel the complex connections between chronic diseases and physical performance and how AI can move us closer to first world standards of improvements in health outcomes.
