Welcome to the 9th biennial conference of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences of The University of the West Indies, Mona. This year’s conference is staged in commemoration of Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence under the theme “Science: Bridge to the Future”. The conference has three sub-themes: Modelling the Future, Powering the Future and Securing the Future, and all accepted papers are categorized within these sub-themes. International experts from industry and academia have been invited to give the plenary talks for each of the sub-themes.
Mr. Ricardo Jenez, consultant in Silicon Valley California and Former Director at Google Enterprise, will deliver the Keynote address entitled “Educational Institutions and Industry as Agents of Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Lessons from Silicon Valley.” His talk will highlight examples ways in which research may be transformed into viable entrepreneurial activities with potentially large positive impact on nation building.
