Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, Mona, Professor Michael Taylor participated in Cohort 2 of the Blue Plant Alliance (BPA) Fellowship program in May 2024. The BPA Fellowship program brings specially invited representatives from island nations and territories to Hawaii for a week-long rigorous seminar and workshop designed to help islands come up with their own plans for a 100% renewable-energy transition.The program was launched in the fall of 2023 just before COP28 in Dubai as the first step in a global movement to end the use of carbon-based fuel. Cohort 2 Fellows includes island leaders from Bermuda, Dominica, Fiji, Grenada, Jamaica, Papúa New Guinea, Puerto Rico, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.
