Study skills are among the most essential academic tools in tertiary education. With the effective application of study skills, learners can discover hidden talents, enjoy learning, reduce anxieties and stress and further experience greater academic benefits.  A 2023 survey among FST’s undergraduate students showed that 76% of the respondents had challenges with time management while 71% had challenges finding the right study method(s). 34% of the respondents said that they only studied during the examination period. In light of this the MyFSTeXperience Team in the Faculty of Science and Technology under the leadership of Dr. Marvadeen Singh-Wilmot hosted a two-day study skills workshop for undergraduate students at the beginning of the semester on January 20 and 21, 2023. Presenters were Dr. Singh-Wilmot, Ms. Simone Williams, Appreciative (Academic) Advisor/Student Success Researchers, Student Services and Development Manager, and Ms. Keresha Larmond, Student Services and Development Manager (Commuting Students), College Student Self-Management Coach. The workshop had 288 students in attendance over the two days. The students actively engaged in activities that allowed them to discover their learning style(s), develop their learning profiles, create time budgets and time tables, while gaining in-depth understanding of the science of learning and the study cycle.  Also in attendance was FST’s Alumni, Danielle Mullings and Sherika Campbell, and current student, Jordan Collins (Department of Chemistry) who openly shared personalized strategies for studying and balancing university life.  The workshop was supported by a financial contribution from Dr. Mark Gonzales, CEO of Mailpac Group Ltd.
