Khatiza Mohammed-Koon Koon was recently awarded an MPhil in Applied Physics (2023) from the Faculty of Science and Technology, The UWI Mona. Supervised by Professor Emeritus A. Anthony Chen, their work contributed to “Strengthening Energy Sector Resilience in Jamaica” a 3-year initiative led by USAID and the Jamaica Energy Resilience Alliance. This work sought to identify potential solar PV and wind energy sites across Jamaica whilst examining the availability of suitable land to achieve 100% renewable electricity generation with a thesis entitled “Towards 100% Renewables: Estimating the Land Space Required for Jamaica to Achieve 100% Renewable Electricity Generation.”
She was also a recipient of the Principal’s Research Award for Best Research Publication (Article) 2023. Outside of academia, Khatiza is a food enthusiast who enjoys traveling and experiencing cultures through food.
