Dr. Beckford joined the Department of Computing as a Lecturer in 2015. His areas of specialization are Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology and E-Learning. Dr. Beckford is highly skilled in online pedagogies which have served the Department particularly during the current online transition. He has played an active role in curriculum development and has participated in creating and revising courses and programmes. Dr. Beckford was awarded the Instructor Excellence Advanced CISCO Global Award and Distinguished Teaching Award (The UWI) in 2012 and 2013.

Dr. Beckford is consistently complimented by his students and others on his teaching abilities. Year after year his students comment on how much they enjoy his classes. The courses he teaches are also generally considered to be non-trivial by his students, in particular the course on discrete mathematics. Dr. Beckford has received awards for distinguished teaching from the faculty, an award that incorporates significant input from students in its determination. He consistently scores above 4 on the university's official student evaluations.

Dr. Beckford also incorporates aspects of his research in his teaching methods and has provided his expertise to his colleagues in the department by sharing his knowledge on teaching best practices. He was invaluable in providing instruction to colleagues in the faculty during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Beckford delivered short courses to faculty members on transitioning to the online environment and the use of the university's online learning platform (Moodle). Dr. Beckford devotes significant time to preparing for his classes and routinely spends many weeks before the start of an academic year engaged in this task.
