FST Celebrated Technical and Service Staff Day 2021 | Serving with Excellence

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), The UWI Mona Campus celebrated its 4th Technical and Service Staff Day on Thursday, November 25, 2021 under the theme, “Serving with Excellence: A Call to Innovate, Integrate and Motivate.”  An Appreciation Ceremony moderated by Mrs. Rosalene Simmonds (Administrative Officer) was held to acknowledge FST’s approximately 150 diligent Technical and Service Staff. The Ceremony included expressions of gratitude from Prof Dale Webber (Pro Vice Chancellor and Campus Principal), Prof Michael Taylor (Dean, FST), Major Clive Davis (Chief Emergency Officer), Mr. Jeffrey Thompson (President MONATS) and Mr. Tyreke McLean (President FSTSG). The guest presenter was Dr. Carly James-Bateman (Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies and Student Experience, Faculty of Social Sciences) who offered words of appreciation and motivation echoed in the quote from Marie Curie, “Life is not easy for any of us, but what of that? We must have perseverance in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that something must be attained.”

Overall, team members were applauded for the integral role they continue to play to ensure that the FST is the “go to place for science, education, research and training” and for excellence among Technical and Service Staff. Undeniably, these categories of staff enthusiastically perform dual roles to ensure the FST and by extension the University excels in the most challenging of times. Service of excellence among the staff was evident in the testimonial delivered by a recent FST Alum, Ginnel Peart who lauded Jermaine Williams (FST Service Staff) for providing immense support in managing her physical disability during her Undergraduate years.  She ended her prose with the most heartfelt comment that further depicts FST’s service of excellence, “a lot of Service and Technical Staff have become family members….continue to be your authentic self, continue to go far and beyond, we love you, we appreciate you, you are needed!”

The activities of the day also included the gifting of tokens and departmental luncheons that were well received by the Staff.  Tokens from the Faculty office were courtesy of the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR).

On behalf of the Faculty of Science and Technology, hats off to our Technical and Service Staff for answering the call to excellence at a time that we all have been tasked to innovate, integrate and motivate.
