FST Study Skills Workshop Empowers Students for Success

 

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), The UWI Mona, recently hosted its annual Semester 2 Study Skills Workshop on January 24-25, 2026. The event drew approximately 75 students, who gathered to address common challenges affecting their academic performance.

The workshop was led by Ms Cindy Andrews, Programme Manager from the Academic Support Unit, OSSD, and her team. They covered essential topics to help students boost their academic skills and achieve their academic goals.

Some of the key topics discussed included:

•⁠  ⁠Time Perception and Time Budgeting: Learning how to manage time effectively to stay on top of assignments and study commitments

•⁠  ⁠Organising Courses and Content for Study: Strategies for breaking down complex material and staying organised

•⁠  ⁠Memory Aids and Mnemonics: Fun and effective ways to improve memory and retain information

•⁠  ⁠Creating a Study Environment: Tips for setting up a productive study space that promotes focus and concentration

•⁠  ⁠Energy, Motivation, and Self-care: How to maintain a healthy balance between academic work and personal well-being

•⁠  ⁠Making Study Groups Effective: Strategies for getting the most out of group study sessions
