The Centre for Leadership and Governance (CLG) is a dynamic research and training hub within the Department of Government at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus. The Centre is dedicated to bridging the gap between academic theory and practical applications in leadership and governance.
With a core team of approximately 20 full-time members and a network of associates spanning Latin America and the Caribbean, the CLG fosters regional collaboration and leverages a wealth of expertise to address pressing governance issues across the region.
Key Focus Areas and Initiatives
The CLG undertakes impactful research, training, and consultancy projects that reflect its commitment to meaningful change. Some of our key initiatives include:
- Field Researcher Training: Equipping researchers with essential skills for data collection and analysis.
- Political Culture Analysis: Conducting studies that assess public perceptions and trends in governance.
- Democracy Studies: Examining the evolution of democratic practices in Jamaica and the wider region.
Leadership and Expertise
The Centre is led by Dr. Gavin Daley, a Lecturer specializing in research methods and the Director of the CLG. His leadership and expertise drive the Centre’s commitment to academic excellence and applied research, ensuring that its work remains relevant.

Students Engagement and Collaboration
The CLG actively collaborates with student organizations to promote leadership development in governance-related fields. Partnerships with groups such as the Governance Society, UWI Model United Nations, and the Society for Future Policy Leaders create opportunities for students to engage, build leadership skills, and contribute to meaningful discussions on governance and policy.
