What Do I Wear

The Ceremonies for the Presentation of Graduates are formal and graduands to be presented to the Chancellor are required to wear academic dress, that is, the University Graduate Gown with appropriate Faculty Hood and Mortar Board where applicable. The wearing of corsages and boutonnieres is NOT permitted. In keeping with the formal nature of this activity, and the standards expected, ladies, in particular, are reminded that modest dress is expected. Very low cut necklines with exposed cleavage, exposed stomachs/navels etc. or any other forms of dress deemed by the University to be unsuitable could take away your opportunity to be presented to the Chancellor.

Presentees for Non-Degree Awards will wear the Red Undergraduate Gown without Faculty Hood; while presentees for Non-Degree Awards who are also Graduates of the UWI and other Universities should wear the Gown and Hood of the Faculties from which they received their first degrees. In addition, the gown should be worn over appropriate attire as follows:

Women:                

White Dresses or White Suits and Black Shoes (Other colours are not permitted - wearing a stylish and comfortable heel is recommended)

Men:

Dark Lounge Suits
(Other colours are not permitted)

GRADUATION PORTRAITS

Graduation portraits will be facilitated at the Graduation One Stop Centre as follows:

  • The UWI Mona Western Jamaica Campus on October 21 and 22, 2023, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • The UWI Mona Campus (The Confucius Institute) from October 24, 2023 to October 31, 2023 (excluding Sunday, October 29), 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

We encourage persons who wish to have their portraits taken before the One Stop Photo Centre opens at the Mona Campus, to take advantage of the in-studio sessions available Monday to Friday commencing on September 25 between the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and for one weekend only, Saturday, October 14 and Sunday October 15 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Bryan Studios Limited located at Shop#24 Kings Plaza, 38c Constant Spring Road, Kingston 10.

PAYMENT AND COLLECTION OF REGALIA

The academic dress, that is, the University Graduate Gown with appropriate Faculty Hood and Mortar Board where applicable, MUST be collected during the One Stop Centre as follows:

  • The UWI Mona Western Jamaica Campus on October 21 and 22, 2023, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • The UWI Mona Campus (Confucius Institute) from October 24, 2023 to October 31, 2023 (excluding Sunday, October 29, 2023), 9:00 am to 6:00pm.

ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE MADE BY OCTOBER 31, 2023; you may do so via our Graduation Store or the Cashier located at WJC or Mona.


CASHIER OPENING HOURS AT THE ONE STOP CENTRE:

WESTERN JAMAICA CAMPUS: 9:00 am to 2:30 pm - Saturday October 21, 2023 to Sunday October 22, 2023. 

MONA:  9:00 am to 6:00 pm - October 24 to 31, 2023.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CASHIER WILL ONLY ACCEPT DEBIT CARD OR CREDIT CARD AT THE ONE STOP CENTRE.
