Dr. Patricia Prescott

Patricia Prescott, PhD is a certified cognitive therapist. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology and her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of West Indies. Dr. Prescott also read for a Masters in Forensic Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice which is a college among the City University of New York system.

Dr. Carole Mitchell

Carole Mitchell is practicing clinical psychologist with expertise in conducting psychological assessments, providing therapeutic intervention for a wide range of psychological conditions and clientele and conducting workshops and seminars on a variety of issues. Carole is a post- doctoral research fellow of CICAD/OAS.

Dr. Nyamekye Richards

Dr. Nyamekye Richards, is a UWI Mona trained psychiatrist working in the field of community psychiatry for 15 years.

She coaches individuals through emotional and behavioural disturbances‎ by offering a very holistic approach to wellness,
often incorporating alternative health interventions along with mental and general health education.

Dr. Lester Shields

Dr Lester Shields is a counsellor at the UWI health centre.

He received his PhD in Pastoral Counselling from the University of Loyola in Maryland, USA.

He is interested in students realizing their full potential.

Mrs. Sharon Williams Brown

Sharon Williams Brown is a Senior Counsellor with over 20 years of service to the University Health Centre. Her clinical interests include anxiety disorders and bereavement issues. She is responsible for coordinating the Peer Support Provider (Peer Counselling) programme and also provides oversight for the UWIHELPS telephone/text counselling service. She enjoys writing and produces psycho-educational brochures for the Counselling Service.

Mrs. Cathian Priestly Lewis

Cathian Priestley Lewis is the front desk Receptionist for the University Counselling Service.  She is a part of the administrative team that is working to enhance the quality, confidentially, efficiency and effectiveness of the Service.

Mrs Lewis has experience in a customer oriented environment where she worked as a Travel Consultant.  She has an Associate Degree in  Information System Management and is currently pursuing studies in Management Studies.  Her addition to the counselling service optimizes its efficiency and administration.

Mrs. Sharon Edwards

Mrs Sharon Edwards is the Counselling Unit’s Senior Secretary. She performs secretarial, and related administrative support functions to the Counselling Unit and has been with the Unit since 1999. She received her secretarial training at Fitz-Henley’s Secretarial Institute and is a certified professional secretary. As well as a wealth of experience in the secretarial field, Mrs Edwards has also completed a number of courses in customer relations and administration, and provides a welcoming atmosphere for customers/clients of the Unit.

Dr. Angela Gordon Stair

Angela Gordon Stair is the head of the Counselling Service on the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies and has been with the unit since 1980. Her clinical interests are in the area of relationship issues, trauma and mature students.   

She is a member of professional organizations including the American Counselling Association, the International Association for Counselling and is a National Board Certified Counsellor (NCC) in the USA.
