Overview

Dr. Lewis lectures Law, Technology and the Internet and Employment Law.

Prior to joining MonaLaw, Ms Lewis started her professional career as a radio journalist. She worked as an attorney at law in two of the Caribbean’s top offshore law firms, and returned to Jamaica to work within the Legal Department of the Gleaner Company.

Profile

Dr. Lewis’ work within the Legal Department of the Gleaner Company led to her main area of research in Defamation, Media and Technology Law. In the wider community, Dr. Lewis serves as a Director of Educom Co-operative Credit Union as well as of Jamaica Rugby Football Union. She also serves as Director of Community Based Rehabilitation Jamaica Board, Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association. In the past, she served as President of Rotary Club of Trafalgar New Heights and as Adjudicator on Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association Appeals Board.

Research

In 2013, Jamaica’s defamation laws were reformed and were based on the defamation laws of England and Wales, and Australia. Dr. Lewis’ research involves a comparative analysis of the application of defamation laws of England and Wales, and Australia to the publications made via the Internet.
